Atlanta on FX: As a former A-t-lien, I am equal parts amused and perplexed by the Donald Glover fronted surrealist comedy. Fresh off Emmys for Best Actor and Best Writing in a comedy series, Donald Glover is red hot. Born in 1983, Glover falls on the younger end of the Xennial Generation and since we are also known as the Star Wars Generation, I can’t think of a better spokeperson than the Young Lando himself. Glover is profiled in this week’s New Yorker Magazine article entitled, “Donald Glover Can’t Save You“. The article is perfectly absurd and weird…coincidentally, two adjectives I would use to describe this week’s premiere. The episode included a robbery of Mrs. Winner Chicken (an Atlanta institution), the oft meme’d Florida Man, Katt Williams (in gif-worthy guest appearance) and an alligator (!). Check your local listings for Atlanta Thursdays on FX. Bonus: Listen to Atlanta actor Brian Tyree Henry discuss being a part of the Xennial Generation on this week’s Deadline Hollywood podcast here.
Early Voting: I live in the great state of Texas and early voting began on February 21st. I will not talk about my political leanings on this post. Maybe later, because I have THOUGHTS. I took both of my kids to the voting location this past week. On the drive to the library, my gregarious son engaged with some volunteers stumping for a local judicial candidate. After entering the building, he loudly asks me if I planned to vote for a judge and if so, I should really consider Judge Judy instead because she is the best judge in the world. I concur, little man. Visit www.vote.org if you need to register to vote, find out if you are registered, get election reminders and much more.
Iron Tribe Fitness: Ranked one of the top 5 best workouts in the nation, Iron Tribe Fitness consists of group classes that use HIIT-style training paired with one-on-one style coaching to make you the healthiest version of yourself. There are more than 60 locations being developed in 15 states. What I love about the program is that classes are only 45 minutes long, in 3 parts: warm-up, daily workout, and cool down. These 3 elements change every day, so there’s always something new to keep you on your toes! Additionally, all of the workouts can be scaled to individual fitness level. I was driven to join the Iron Tribe Stone Oak location after returning from a funeral of a dear friend that we lost to cancer, last July. Months before she passed away, I visited with her and she implored me to take care of myself so that I can be around for my kids. I etched those words in my heart and sought out an exercise program that was flexible, yet fun. So far, Iron Tribe has far exceeded my expectations. Since July 2017, I have lost 16 pounds (and maintained it!!!), and I workout at least 4 times per week…and I haven’t gotten bored yet. Black Panther…so much as been written about this phenomenal film. I will let the professional writers do all the heavy lifting here, here, or here. And if you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and run to the theatre to check it out.
