Welcome to the Xennial Mom, my name is Shiketa. I am honored to have you as a part of the Xennial Mom community.  Learn a bit more about me here (link to About me page)

So what exactly is a Xennial (pronounced ZEN-ee-uh-ls) ). Well, if you have made it to this page you have a pretty good idea.

If were born between 1977 (like your dear blogger) and 1983,

you remember a time before the internet and are nostalgic about your analog childhood, but your adult life is pretty tech-centered. We are reminded of this day after day (thanks Facebook Memories).

We are unique in that we are the last generation that came of age before social media. This impacts the way we view everything from:

eXpenses: When it comes to our finances, we launched as adults before the 2008 market crash killed our “adult” dreams — but mostly because most of us weren’t stable enough yet to have a home or retirement savings to lose.

XoXo (aka our relationships): We are the the kids of younger Baby Boomers and older Gen-Xers. We were protected as children, but not necessarily subjected to helicopter parents or over-parenting. As we were growing up, technology matured along side us. We had time to get used to it and were still young enough to feel right at home with it. So this informs everything from the way we raise our kids, to our relationships with friends and families, to our love lives.

eXperiences: As employees/entrepreneurs, we enjoy freedom and individualism, but also know how to work in teams. This makes us very attractive to employers and a desirable marketing demographic.

eXplorers: We value work life balance. We know how to use technology (whether in the office, a hotel room or home) to drive for results. However, we also rank work/life balance highly in relation to our career goals.

Or in other words: Xennials are neither depressed (characteristic of GEN Xers) nor overly optimistic (characteristic of Millennials). We hold the optimal balance. All things considered, it’s not frustrating to be sandwiched between two generations.

I would say we managed to be born at the perfect time. This blog will serve as a resource to learn all about the topics that matter to us. Welcome!
